Purpose of Existence – Then and Now

Yaana Enterprises started in the year 2017 with the aim of uplifting skilled, but underprivileged women.  Our first journey is with traditional weavers of India.

Let us take a quick look at the industry & the weavers –

           Indian textiles is one of the oldest manufacturing industry which portrays country’s rich and diverse culture, and also showcases exemplary skill of weavers.  Weavers often belonged to communities that specialize in weaving and they learn the weaving techniques from their ancestors.  Weaving knowledge is actually preserved from one generation to the next and this heritage is spanning over 5000 years!!

            Unfortunately, today’s weavers are facing severe livelihood crisis because of many facts like fast-fashion, outdated-designs, globalization etc.  They are struggling to sustain.   And obviously, they are encouraging their next generation to take up some other profession and we are in the verge of losing the age-old knowledge base.

Women weavers are in pitiful state - born poor, deprived of education and unable to make the ends meet with their earnings in weaving.  We have met many such women artisans who have stopped weaving and taken up some mundane jobs like domestic help.  Yaana is working relentlessly to bring back such women artisan to weaving profession.  We are trying to give a stable and continuous work opportunity by contemporizing the craft and by using advanced technology for weaving and marketing.

Giving job opportunity is only a part of the job done.  To uplift a community, we believe, development has to happen on all aspects of socioeconomic factors.  We work in the areas like skill development, education and awareness programs.

The journey has just begun … be our companion
